How do I connect using USB to the Maxim, Maxim+ or Pronto?

The Maxim, Maxim+ and Pronto-controllers come with a small adapter board for connecting USB to the 39-pin connector. This PCB is just a USB breakout board, making it more convenient to connect than cutting and splicing a USB cable.

The connections should be made as follows

Connect 35V or more to the input terminals. Then a USB-connection can be made from a computer running VESC Tool by connecting a USB cable to the adapter board.

Note
Pin 28 and pin 29 need to be bridged to enable the main regulator on the device. When the main regulator is disabled a connection cannot be made.

Note
Do not connect 5V to the adapter board, only D+, D- and GND are required.

Note
Ensure that you use a USB-cable that includes data lines. A charge-only cable will not work. If you are not sure try a few different cables.

Note
Some USB-C to USB-C cables do not work on all devices. This has been observed on several apple computers. If you have an apple computer we recommend using a USB hub and a USB-A to USB-C cable.

Note
The Android- and iOS-versions of VESC Tool do not work using USB. Mobile phones and tablets need to use bluetooth or wifi to connect. The desktop version of VESC Tool looks like this:

If it does not look like this you are most likely using the mobile version of VESC Tool. Then you need to download the desktop-version for Linux, Windows or Mac from vesc-project.com/vesc_tool
